Welcome to the Ottawa, Canada, Branch of the OMRS.

We meet between 19:30 and 21:30 on the second Wednesday of every month at: Party Room, 71 Somerset Street West, the Ann Manor building, Ottawa.

We are always happy to meet and host OMRS members and prospective members who are in the area - please contact the Branch Secretary by e-mail to let us know when you'll be in town, and we'll be happy to arrange an impromptu meeting.

On normal meeting nights, free visitor parking is available behind the Ann Manor Building off Cooper Street; the building is security controlled, so you need to use the intercom to request access. Party Room is on the first floor just off the lobby. The Ann Manor Building is in the heart of downtown Ottawa near the Rideau Canal, and easily accessible by public transit.

Ottawa Branch Annual Medals Day
January 2012

Ottawa is Canada's capital, and is home to the National War Museum, the National War Memorial, Beechwood Cemetery, where our National Military Cemetery is housed, the Canada Aviation Museum, Library and Archives Canada, as well as a number of historic military sites, including the Rideau Canal and Connaught Ranges. Given this, our members enjoy excellent access to a variety of research venues.
Our monthly meetings normally consist of a discussion of Branch business, a presentation by a Branch member or a guest speaker, and an informal show and share session where members bring in medals they are researching and discuss the recipient and what they have learned about him/her.
We have a regular attendance of between 10 and 20 members at our meetings, and light refreshments are normally provided. Conflicts with availability of our normal venue sometimes force us off site, and when this occurs, we will usually meet at a local pub - given this, if you are in the area and are thinking of dropping in on a meeting, it is a good idea to call ahead!
